The spaceship Friede from the 1929 silent movie Die Frau im Mond
( Woman in the Moon) by the German film producer/director Fritz Lan,
takes-off in a blaze of arc lights on a journey to the moon. Fritz Lang's science fiction movie is the silver screens first serious flight to another world and contains the worlds first filmed countdown. The model of the ship that carried the crew to its lunar destination and harold in the birth of the space age was designed my German Rocket scientist Hermann Oberth, the Prussian militarist Rudolf Nebel and the young writer Willy Ley.
